I’m here in Wheeling, IL at the 2007 Brickworld convention. It’s pretty insane — the amount of LEGO some people here have in their layouts is mind-boggling.

So far, it’s been mostly setup. People are unpacking and rebuilding their creations. There’s a lot of train layouts, with a variety of themes. I’m looking forward to seeing those completely put together.

There was also the introduction of the Brickworld-exclusive sets, and I helped build a chunk of Café corner for a “build an incredibly tall Café Corner” type event. That’s a mighty fine looking set, and it was fun to put together even a part of it. They’re trying to build a 19-story version of the set here — yikes.
As for the city itself, it’s been… interesting. The area of Wheeling, IL around where Brickworld is taking place is still being developed. As a result, there aren’t always sidewalks where sidewalks should be. I’ve done a lot of walking so far, and it’s only day one, haha.
I’ll be back tomorrow with more.

EDIT: Forgot to mention that the first person I met at Brickworld was Steve Witt, whose blog I’ve had on posted on the side here these many months. Unfortunately, it looks like it’s now been hacked.
