“Little Guys!” featured on Make: Online

Monday, March 8th, 2010

Make: Online is taking the month of March to talk about DIY moviemaking, and one of the first topics they’re covering is LEGO animation. And they’ve included my film “Little Guys!” as one of the most awesome LEGO films made, to be used for inspiration. I’m flattered!

I’m being impersonated on YouTube

Saturday, October 18th, 2008

Well, not exactly — some kid is uploading my videos without my permission. I’ve already flagged them as violating copyright and sent the user a message. But if you’ve got a YouTube account, I’d appreciate it if you’d log in and flag the videos “little guyz!” and “go miniman go!” as violating copyright. Here is the link:

Brickworld 2008: The Reckoning

Saturday, June 21st, 2008

Another year, another Brickworld — the mega-LEGO fan event festival convention extravaganza that happens out in Wheeling, IL every June. This year’s has been particularly awesome so far — I taught a class on LEGO animation and also started up the animation demos I did last year, too. Probably gonna try to run some kind of nighttime LEGO animation screening tonight as well.

Sadly, all this running around means that I haven’t been as on top of the pictures as I was last year, but here are a few to whet your palate. Or your appetite. I forget how sayings work.

(There are also some photos posted over on The Brothers Brick.)

Hopefully I’ll have some more to say and to show by the end of the event, which is tomorrow night. If you’re in the Chicago area, I highly recommend stopping by — Public day tomorrow is from 10am-3pm.

Little Guys! wins two BAFA awards

Monday, March 24th, 2008

I received an interesting e-mail this past Sunday night (after having internet problems all weekend). Apparently, Little Guys! has won “Best Film” and “Best Animation” in the 2008 BAFA awards!

And I didn’t even know I was nominated.

The BAFA (Brick Award for Film Arts) is a new awards ceremony cooked up by some of the members of the brickfilm community. The former brickfilm awards (the BAMPAs) have apparently fallen by the wayside, and it seems the BAFAs are taking their place. To win twice in a first-of-it’s-kind awards judging is both flattering and humbling.

2008 BAFA Award - Best Film
2008 BAFA Award - Best Animation

All in all, Little Guys! picked up five nominations — Best Sound Design, Best Set Design, Best Ensemble Cast, Best Animation, and Best Film. Again, a huge honor. You can read more about the awards here.

A big thanks to the organizers and to everyone who voted for the movie!
